Credit Repair Myths - The Real Truth
1) Yes, it is commonly believed that it takes a loooong time to accomplish credit repair... some of my clients have actually gone down that road and claimed that it took up to a year. Many credit repair services tell their prospects that it will take up to a year or more. To test this, I actually contacted a law firm practicing credit repair and was told that it could take up to a year.
NOT TRUE - The credit repair service we refer our clients to can have your credit repaired in far less time. As a matter of fact most of their customers are complete in 45 days or less, yes I said "most" meaning over half. What do I mean by complete? Well, that would be a credit score good enough to buy a home with market terms, not some super high interest rate for low credit customers.
Let me repeat - most are compelte in 45 days!! Those that take longer can be in process for several months, but nowhere near a year!
2) It is believed that Credit Repair is an expensive process... many credit repair companies charge monthly fees and by the time it is over, those fees can add up to $1,000 or more. If you think about it... collecting monthly fees just might be one reason that the process drags our so long.
NOT TRUE - Let me rephrase... it is true that ost credit repair services are expensive and that some charge monthly fees. Those that do not can still be expensive, as one very popular law firm charges $1,000 flat for their service.
The reason the answer is "Not True" is that it does not have to be expensive. As a matter of fact, the service we refer charges a $250 flat fee for each person, and guess what, they want to get your credit repaired correctly, legally, properly and timely because the longer it takes, the more it costs them!
If they cannot bring your credit score to an acceptable level within a reasonable time frame, they will inform you that you should no spend the money to do so, with them or anyone else... now that's the kind of service we want from any company isn't it?
3) Many Americans believe that "FreeCreditReport.com" will give them an accurate reflection of their credit. After all, those comercials would not mislead us would they?
NOT TRUE - The fact is that FreeCreditReport.com DOES NOT give you the same credit score that a mortgage lender will find when they pull your credit report. Without going into a lot of complicated detail on what sources are used and how and when those are used and wich are outdated and how scored are compiled, the bottom line is this... pulling your credit from places like FreeCreditReport.com better be free because it is NOT an accurate reflection of your credit score used when you want to buy a home.
You can actually get a REAL LIVE credit report like the one your mortgage company will see by spending about $9 for one or $18 for two of you.
One last myth is your credit is just too bad to be corrected enough so that you can buy a house... NO, NO, NO... let a professional make that decision... don't pass the chance to own your own home because of incorrect information, and that is what you proably have if you have listened to others about credit repair.
